“Tajchy” of Banská Štiavnica (Middle Slovakia)

Tajchy are lakes situated in Central Slovakia in the Štiavnické Mountains. They were constructed for the needs of the local mines and until today 24 lakes have been picturesquely created in nature. Some of them are great for recreation: in summer for swimming and boating, in winter for skating, in spring and autumn they are a popular place for walks. There are also many cycling routes. The most famous is Počúvadlianske lake under the legendary hill Sitno. The large water reservoir and Klinger are easily accessible on foot from the town Banská Štiavnica, which is inscribed in the UNESCO List of Natural and Cultural Heritage.

Walkway through the treetops of Bachledka (East Slovakia)

The treetop walkway Bachledka is located on the ridge of Spišská Magura, on the border of Pieniny and the Tatra National Parks. A route of more than 600 meters leads you through a varied forest. The view from the 32-meter-high tower offers spectacular views of the Belianske Tatras, the unique scenery of Pieniny and the picturesque Zamagurie. While walking on the sidewalk in the treetops, adrenaline challenges and an educational trail with local fauna and flora await you. The area includes a children's playground and a popular ski resort in winter.

Water mills Oblazy Kvačianska dolina (North Slovakia / Region Liptov)

Kvačianska dolina is one of the most beautiful valleys in Slovakia. The undemanding route leads visitors to a picturesque place with two original wooden mills on the bank of the stream. One of them was rebuilt to a sawmill. Both are renovated and you can still view the technology that was used in the past. In the meadow by the mills you can have a picnic, meet goats and spend a great time with your family or friends in beautiful nature. The mills are technical monuments and part of the educational trail of Prosiecka and Kvačianska dolina.

Europe courtyard and fortress in Komárno (South Slovakia)

Europe courtyard is one of Komárno's biggest tourist attractions. It is a unique building complex with typical architecture elements of 45 European countries and regions. There is also a music pavilion, statues of European patrons, a 33-meter-high tower and catacombs in the underground, accommodating a nice exhibition space at present.

Another interesting building in Komárno is the fortress whose construction began in 1546 as a part of the anti-Turkish defense. It gradually became the largest and strongest fortification building of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The complex of buildings is located directly in the city – on the edge of the confluence of the Danube and Váh. Due to its size and preservation it is unique on a European scale.

Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, Bratislava (West Slovakia)

Danubiana is one of the most romantic museums of modern art in Europe. It is situated 20 kilometers south of Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic.

The Danubiana’s unique location on the borders of Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, as well as its harmonious combination of museum architecture and the surrounding Danube River landscape offer visitors a unique experience of the artworks as well as the nature, changing with the seasons. The museum roof offers a great view of Bratislava, the Small Carpathians and the majestic Danube River, especially at sunset.
